ODESSA – The offense output has come from different players all season long for the UT Permian Basin baseball team and on Sunday it was
Brent Rigtrup who matched a season-high with three hits on the afternoon. The junior was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in what turned into another high scoring contest against UT Tyler.
The Patriots got on the board in the top of the first and added another run in the fourth for a 2-0 lead. The Falcons had been kept in check to that point, but in the fourth their bats finally broke out.
Ethan Flodstrom walked and moved to third on a double by
Mason Hamlin. A sacrifice fly got the Falcons on the board before Rigtrup tied the game on a single. Two batters later, he came around to score on a fielder's choice for the 3-2 lead.
Ethan Babcock-Barrie doubled home
Austin Hall for the final run of the inning and the Falcons were on top by two.
After the Patriots added a run in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to one, the Falcons responded in the bottom of the inning. Flodstrom reached on a walk and moved to second on a passed ball. Later in the inning with two outs, Rigtrup snuck the ball down the right field line for the RBI-double and a 5-3 lead.
Heading into the eighth the Falcons trailed 7-5 before rallying again. Rigtrup started the inning with a single before being lifted for a pinch runner. An error allowed two on and a bunt single loaded the bases with no outs. A ground ball plated a run and
Michael Clapperton reached on an error, bringing in another and tying the score at seven. The Patriots rallied in the top of the ninth for four runs in the eventual 11-7 final.
Hamlin finished the afternoon with three hits and scored a run. Flodstrom was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI and also drew a pair of walks.
Parker Goin had a strong start, striking out three over 5.1 innings.
