Aracely Araiza had a hot day at the plate for the UT Permian Basin softball team on Tuesday, driving in three runs and recording three its on the afternoon at Western New Mexico. She wasn't the only one in n the offensive fun as
Aryell Aguiar drove in a pair while
Mia Quintero it her fourth home run of the season.
The Falcons begun the doubleheader with a bang scoring four runs before taking the field defensively. A single by
Emily Andress and a walk to Quintero, followed by an error loaded the bases. Araiza doubled in a pair for the 2-0 lead. Aguiar followed her with a two-run single for the four-run lead. The offense went quiet as the Mustangs were able to battle back and tie the score.
A fifth inning rally by the Falcons broke the tie. Quintero singled with two-out and
Taylen Thurman was hit by a pitch to put two on. Araiza then singled to centerfield to score Quintero and retake the lead, 5-4. The Mustangs answered with three runs in their half of the inning to take the lead. The Falcons threatened in the seventh, but stranded the bases loaded to end the game at 7-5.
The Falcon bats were held in check in the second game of the doubleheader.
Keri Sanford had the team's first hit of the game in the third inning on a bunt. In the fourth, Quintero's home run to lead off the inning got the Falcons on the board, but they couldn't keep up with the hitting of the Mustangs for the 13-1 final.
These two sides finish off their series tomorrow at noon from Silver City, New Mexico.
