WICHITA FALLS – For only the fourth time in the history of the program, a UT Permian Basin women's basketball player grabbed the coveted triple double. Sophomore guard
Avalon Munoz pulled down 10 rebounds and handed out 10 assists to go along with 18 points against Midwestern State University tonight to become the first Falcon to record a triple double since 2012.
Munoz was not the only Falcon who had a big night. Junior guard
Holly Hemmeline dropped six three pointers on the Mustangs on her way to 21 points with a pair of assists and steals. Freshman
Khiara Flugence lead the team in rebounds taking an even six and six from the offensive and defensive boards to finish with 12 total rebounds with a block, two steals, an assist, and five points.
UTPB and MSU Texas started the game off neck-and-neck until just after the first media timeout. The Falcons were up 10-9 at the 4:50 mark in the first quarter. UTPB went on a 15-0 to jump out to a 25-9 lead with just over a minute left in the quarter and the Falcons never looked back led by Hemmeline who finished the quarter with 10 points with three three-pointers. Â
UT Permian cruised to an 80-50 win to improve to 11-13 (8-10) on the season.
The Falcons will stay on the road for a Saturday game vs Cameron up in Lawton, OK. That game is schedule to tip off at 1 pm.
