ODESSA – It took one extra inning for the Falcons to complete a Sunday come from behind win over conference foe Lubbock Christian University.
LCU jumped out to an early lead in the first inning with 3 runs to start the game.
The Falcons slowly chipped away at the lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning from
Michael Clapperton. Clapperton, got on with a single, stole second, and moved to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a hard hit ball to third base.
In the fourth inning it was Clapperton again who put another run on the board. Clapperton reached first on a walk, and got to third after a failed pickoff attempt allowed him to advance to third base. A SAC RBI from
Carson Johnson, scored Clapperton making the score 3-2 in favor of LCU.
In the top of the ninth the Falcons were in a bases loaded jam with one out when the Chaps hitter just beat out the double play throw to first allowing the base runner from third to score and extend the LCU lead to 4-2.
The Falcons stayed aggressive at the plate, starting the inning with a pair of singles. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth,
Cooper Ciesielski hit a double to left center and
Gabriel Morin to beat the throw home scoring from first base to tie the game up at 4-4.
In the bottom of the 10
th, the Falcons had a leadoff single from Johnson who moved to second on a SAC bunt from
Jay DeSoto.
Mason Hamlin drew the intentional walk, and pinch hitter
Taylor McDaniel was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out, bringing
Jasson Hemmerling to the plate.
Hemmerling turned on a pitch to send it safely in the right field to score Johnson and seal the win for the Falcons.
UTPB wins game four of the series 5-4 to split the series with LCU.
Falcon pitching combined for seven strikeouts over 10 inning with the win going to
Creede Jeffers.
Next up for the Falcons will be a short road trip up to Angelo State for a four game series starting Friday, February 17. First pitch schedule for 3pm.
