Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Falcons Storm Through Lady Buffs

ODESSA, Texas – Neither hail, pouring rain and lightning slowed down The University of Texas Permian Basin women's soccer team (3-3-3, 1-1-2 Lone Star Conference) as they rolled past West Texas A&M (1-3-4, 0-1-2 LSC) 5-1, Wednesday night at UTPB Soccer Field.

This is the first ever positive result against the Lady Buffs.  It is the most goals that the Falcons have scored in a Lone Star game.  UTPB is off to the best LSC start in program history.

Due to a storm, the game started 70 minutes later than scheduled.  West Texas A&M scored first at the 19:10 mark.  With 5:17 left in the first half, junior Kristel Chaves blasted the ball past the keeper to tie the game up.

Just 25 seconds into the second half, senior Tatiana Leggiero drove around the defender and put the ball into the twine to put UTPB up at 2-1.

For the next 15 minutes, both the Falcons and Lady Buffs had several chances that were stopped by strong defensive plays.  At the 68:08 mark, junior Andrea Garcia scored off a pass from junior Laura Perez.  That made it 3-1, UT Permian Basin.

With 13:31 left in the game, Chaves served up a free kick that junior Carolina Farias knocked in.  UTPB closed out the scoring at the 81:22 mark when Perez scored after passes from Leggiero and Garcia.

UT Permian Basin had 19 shots with 10 on goal, three corner kicks and was called for 15 fouls.  Leggiero finished with three assists, the first hat trick since Oct. 26, 2008.  Freshman Valeria Delgado had nine saves.

West Texas A&M had 14 shots with 10 on goal, five corner kicks and was called for 13 fouls.

UT Permian Basin Head Coach Carla Tejas
"Absolutely proud of the team, they deserve all the credit for everything they have accomplished the last three games. At the end of the day, it's all about culture and building a winning culture with these young women is easy"

UT Permian Basin hits the road, Wednesday, Oct. 11 taking on Angelo State.  The game is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
