Park And UTPB Bring Home Titles

WAIMEA, Hawaii – History was made as The University of Texas Permian Basin men's golf team won the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate.  The tournament was played at Hapuna Golf Course, a Par-72 with a total yardage of 6,875 yards.

UTPB (Receiving Votes) shot 273-284 for a -19 to win by four strokes over #15 Colorado Christian.  Rounding out the top five were Cal State San Marcos (Receiving Votes) (3rd – 291-283, -2). Hawaii Pacific (4th – 285-291, E) and Cal State San Bernardino (5th – 291-287, +2).

Individually, senior Sangha Park shot 62-72 for a -10 to win by four strokes over sophomore Thonsaeng Nunya.

This is the first time that UTPB has won the team and individual title at the same tournament.  It is the second straight team win for the Falcons.  This was the third win this season and fifth overall for Park.

Park led the field in birdies (14) and Par 4 Scoring at 3.75 and was among the top 10 in Par 5 Scoring at 4.50.

Nunya shot 72-66 to finish at -6.  He tied for first in Par 3 Scoring at 2.63, was second in Par 4 Scoring at 3.90 and tied for fourth in birdies (11)

Sophomore Kongpop Kaikaew tied for sixth at -3 (69-72).  He was fourth in Par 5 Scoring at 4.38 and among the top 10 with 10 birdies.

Freshman Ioan Rowe tied for 23rd at +1 (71-74).  He was second with 30 pars.

Senior Nolan Otto tied for 33rd at +3 (71-76).  He is among the top 10 in Par 5 Scoring at 4.50.

UT Permian Basin is off until Sunday, Mar. 3 when they open the Las Vegas Desert Classic in Las Vegas, Nev.
