Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Falcons Muzzle Greyhounds

ODESSA, Texas – It was a trifecta as The University of Texas Permian Basin women's soccer team (4-5-5, 2-3-4 Lone Star Conference) beat Eastern New Mexico (1-11-4, 0-9-1 LSC) 2-1, Wednesday night at UTPB Soccer Field.

This is the third straight win over the Greyhounds.  The Falcons now have 10 points in the LSC, second most in program history.

Just 6:28 into the game, junior Kristel Chaves blasted a free kick from 25 yards away into the net.  That made it 1-0.

UTPB had several strong scoring chances that just missed.  With 10:14 left in the first half, Eastern New Mexico scored off a corner kick to make it 1-1.

In the second half, the Falcons had two potential goals robbed by great saves by the keeper in the first 10 minutes.  At the 72:57 mark, Chaves served up a free kick into the box.

Junior Andrea Garcia tapped it over to sophomore Natalia Salas.  She put the ball past the keeper for a 2-1 lead.  Freshman Valeria Delgado made two great saves in the closing minutes to preserve the win.

UT Permian Basin had 12 shots with seven on goal, two corner kicks and was called for six fouls.  Chaves had a goal and an assist for the third straight game.  She has tied the single season school LSC record with five goals and broke the records for assists (5) and points (15).

UT Permian Basin Women's Soccer Head Coach Carla Tejas
"I'm very proud of Kristel.  I have been very lucky to be able to coach her throughout her college career. She is an extraordinary player, an amazing person and deserves the moment that she is living right now.  Kristel has a bright future and without her our program wouldn't be the same. I'm happy that she got into the UTPB soccer record book."

Eastern New Mexico had 12 shots with four on goal, five corner kicks and was called for eight fouls.  Samantha Jeffries had five saves.

UT Permian Basin hits the road, Saturday, Oct. 28 taking on St. Mary's (Texas).  The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
