UTPB Takes The Battle To Mustangs

ODESSA, Texas – The University of Texas Permian Basin women's soccer team (3-5-4, 1-3-3 Lone Star Conference) never stopped battling in a 3-2 loss to Midwestern State (6-3-5, 3-2-3 LSC), Wednesday night at UTPB Soccer Field.

This is the fourth straight game that the Falcons have scored against the Mustangs.

Midwestern State took the first score of the night at the 7:41 mark.  10 minutes later, junior Kristel Chaves broke free and launched a missile at the net.

Only a great save by the keeper kept the ball from going in.  With under four minutes to go in the first half, junior Andrea Garcia was denied a goal by the keeper.

In the second half, UTPB and the Mustangs each had several strong chances that just missed.  MSU managed to knock one in at the 66:23 mark to make it 2-0.

With 14:17 left in the game, Chaves drilled a free kick from about 25 yards out into the net to make it 2-1.  Midwestern State came back a little over four minutes later to make it 3-1.

The Falcons kept fighting and with 12 seconds left in the game, Chaves put a free kick in front of the net.  Senior Hayley Sawyer knocked it in to make it 3-2.
