Volleyball Reloads with Pair of High School Heavy Hitters

1/25/2023 2:58:00 PM

Ready to rebound in 2023, UT Permian Basin Head Volleyball Coach Tim Loesch has announced the program's first two signees of the year.

The first signee of the class is Mya Black.  Black, a 6-3 middle hitter and opposite side, comes from Lewisville High School.  She led the team in kills and earned a spot on the All-Academic First Team.  Her club team, Tejas, qualified for the 2022 National Championship Tournament.

Also joining the Falcons is Kennedi Wright, a 5-9 outside hitter from Plano East High School.  Wright was an All-District Second Team Selection as well as the Most Valuable Defensive Player.  She was a part of the club team Skyline who won the 2022 USA Division National Championship and earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

"These two freshman have excelled at the high school and club level," said Loesch.  "They are well prepared for the college game and are fun to watch.  They will challenge immediately for playing time at UTPB and have the potential to become All-Conference athletes in the ultra-tough Lone Star Conference.  I will enjoy helping them towards that goal and look forward to them joining the team!"
