UT Permian Basin Volleyball flexed their muscle on Thursday in the first day of the Lone Star Conference Crossover in Dallas.
Devin Alcoser recorded her first career double-double while
Taurie Magee led the offense with 12 kills as the Falcons defeated Arkansas Fort Smith in four sets.
It was all Falcons in the opening set as they jumped out to a 10-4 lead. The Lions battled and wrestled the lead from the Falcons with an 8-0 run. That didn't deter the Falcons though, who responded with a 6-2 run including kills by five different players. A kill from Magee tied the score at 25 each. After a error by the Lions,
Stephanie Sanchez clinched the set with an ace.
In set two, the Falcons grabbed a 7-2 led and never looked back. The Lions closed the Falcon lead to just three, but the Falcons hit .235 for the set and held their opponents to just a .067 hitting percentage. The script was flipped in the third set as the Falcon offense struggled to get going before falling 25-13. That woke up the Falcons who started the fourth set fast with a 9-2 run. They led by as many as 10 points in the set before the Lions made a run for a respectable final score of 25-21 for the match.
Alcoser had 17 assists along with 14 digs for her double-double.
Daylee Doggett led the defense with 18 digs.
Aquincia Strambler once again finished in double figures for kills with 10.
The Falcons are back in action tomorrow against St. Mary's in Dallas with first serve slated for 3 p.m. Download the UTPB Athletics App to follow the team all season long.
