Ferrari Has Career Day in High Scoring Series Finale

The University of Texas Permian Basin hammered out 11 hits and led as late as the top of the seventh inning on Sunday afternoon, in a Lone Star Conference road game against Oklahoma Christian that saw the lead change hands eight times.

Devin Ferrari went four-for-four for the Falcons, including two home runs and five runs batted in. Pedro Astacio and Christian Rodriguez contributed two hits each. UT Permian Basin garnered 36 hits during the four-game series in Edmond, nine of which went for extra bases.

The Falcons' Trever Berg retired the Eagles in order in the bottom of the first – ground balls to third baseman Austin Parks, second baseman Mario Pena and first baseman Oswaldo Godina.

The Falcons then established a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Ferrari singled to left field, stole second and scored on Cole Dickie's single.

After Oklahoma Christian took one-run lead in the bottom of the second, the Falcons regained the advantage, 3-2, on Ferrari's two-run, two-RBI single to left. Michael Clapperton scored after reaching base on a one-out double to left field and advancing to third on Garret Thornton's single. Thornton stole second before scoring on Ferrari's hit.

Berg achieved his second three-up, three-down inning in the bottom of the third, striking out the last two Eagle batters.

Oklahoma Christian captured a one-run lead in the bottom of the fourth, but Ferrari put the Falcons' back on top, 5-4, with a two-out, two-run homer to right center – scoring Clapperton, who had walked.

After the Eagles took a two-run lead in the bottom of the fifth, the Falcons scored two in the top of the sixth to knot the score at 7-7. Rodriguez led off the inning with a double and subsequently scored on a throwing error. Gabriel Melendez, who walked, eventually scored on an RBI ground ball by Thornton, who reached base on a fielder's choice.

UT Permian Basin regained the lead, 8-7, when Ferrari homered to lead off the top of the seventh.

Oklahoma Christian posted 11 runs in the bottom of seventh to claim a run-rule victory, 18-8.
