It was a good afternoon at the plate for
Valerie Gonzalez facing one of the top teams in the nation. The senior had three hits and scored twice on the day for UT Permian Basin against No. 14 Lubbock Christian.
Her first hit of the day came on a single that bounced right off the first base bag. She moved to second on a single by
Emily Andress and then to third on a sac bunt by
Leslie Martinez. Gonzalez came into score on a ground ball by
Lani Graft for the first run of the day for the Falcons. In the third Gonzalez singled once again, this time on a ground ball to third that had enough spin to roll back fair. Andress and Martinez followed with singles to load the bases with nobody out. She scored once again on a ground ball by Graft for the team's second run.
In the fourth, Gonzalez came through with a single to right with the bases loaded for an RBI. It wasn't enough as the Falcons couldn't slow down the Chap offense for the 12-3 final. In the first game the Falcon offense couldn't get going and fell 12-0.
Cayln Brister was strong out of the bullpen once again, allowing just one run over 1.2 innings.
The Falcons will take on their fifth straight ranked opponent on Thursday as they travel to No. 9 Texas A&M - Kingsville. Download the UTPB Athletics App to follow the team all season long.
