Facing one of the top teams in Division II on Friday, UT Permian Basin Softball pushed across 10 runs in doubleheader action against No. 17 Angelo State.
Aubree Beggs led the offense with a four-hit afternoon while
Lani Graft drove in three runs.
The Falcons used small ball to get on the board in the first inning. Twice they had runners on the corners and attempted to steal second base allowing the runner from third to score to take a 2-1 lead. The Falcons trailed entering the fifth, but the offense woke up against the Rambelle bullpen.
Sydney Bishop doubled followed by a walk to
Cheyenne Marquez and a single by Beggs to load the bases.
Leslie Martinez scored a run on a ground ball and Araiza walked to reload the bases.
Melayna Lopez drove home one with a single before Graft doubled home a pair. Later in the inning
Ashlynn Bradley's ground ball plated a fifth run of the inning. In the sixth Martinez brought home another run on a ground ball. Trailing by three in the seventh, a pair of walks brought the tying run to the plate but the Falcons couldn't push another run across for the 11-8 final.
Back-to-back singles in game two put the Falcons in a great position to start the game. They plated both runs on a sac fly by
Aracely Araiza while Graft drove home another run on a single for the early 2-0 lead. Starter
Destini Trahan worked in and out of trouble all day against one of the best hitting teams in the Lone Star Conference, stranding eight over the course of seven innings. The game went to the seventh tied at two before the Rambelles pushed a pair across. The Falcons couldn't get anything going in the bottom half of the inning for a 4-2 final.
Trahan struck out four and walked just one in a complete game. In the opening game Cayln Brister threw a career high 4.0 innings, not allowing a run in each of the final two.
