Box Score 2 Heading into the fourth week of the season,
Michael Clapperton has been one of the most consistent hitters for UT Permian Basin. On Sunday, he continued to show why with four hits against No. 3 West Texas A&M. In the effort he raised his season average to a team high .340 to go along with five extra base hits and 17 RBI.
Clapperton started the day with singles in the first and second innings, on the first two pitches he saw. The one in the second inning brought in
Christian Rodriguez to tie the game at one. He then singled in the fifth to move
Gabriel Melendez to third.
Gabriel Morin then lofted a sacrifice fly to right to score Melendez for their second run of the contest. That was all the Falcons could muster off the ace of the Buffs' staff for the 12-2 final.
The Falcons had their chances in the second game to score early. They had two runners on in each of the first three innings but couldn't push a run across against the No. 3 team in the nation. They also had two runners on in the fifth and eighth innings but couldn't score in the 6-0 shutout.
Parker Buys struck out six in 6.0 innings of work while
Andre Leyva allowed just one run in 3.0 innings of relief.
In the opening game,
Joel Vasquez threw 2.1 innings of relief and struck out three. Melendez, Morin, and
Oswaldo Godina each had two hits on the day.
