Trailing by four early, UT Permian Basin Softball rallied late for the 6-4 win over Fort Lewis. The victory extended their winning streak to six and was the team's third overall at the WT Invitational.
The Falcons struggled early and were only able to record a single hit heading into the fourth. The Skyhawks extended their lead to 4-0 after a double in the top half of the inning.
Julia Bumford got the rally going with a walk and
Mia Quintero followed with a single.
Melayna Lopez bunted both over to put runners in scoring position.
Ashlynn Bradley got the Falcons on the board with a ground ball to short. The Falcons continued the rally with two outs. After a walk to
Evelyn Duran,
Aryell Aguiar doubled home a pair to make it a one-run ballgame. Just three pitches later,
Valerie Gonzalez singled to right to tie the game at four.
In the fifth,
Aracely Araiza led off the inning with a double. She moved to third after Quintero reached on an error. With two outs in the inning, a wild pitch allowed Araiza to cross the plate. Bradley then ripped a single to left to bring home Quintero and give the Falcons a 6-4 lead.
Cynthia Ng allowed just two base runners the rest of the way for the victory.
In the second game of the day the Falcons struck early against Adams State. Gonzalez worked a lead-off walk and advanced to third on a single by
Emily Andress. Araiza and Quintero hit back-to-back ground balls to plate two for the early lead. Some pitching and field miscues allowed the Falcons to extend the lead in the fifth. Just one hit, an error, three walks, and a hit batter allowed four runs to score and push the lead to 6-1. The leas wouldn't hold as the Grizzlies scored six times in the seventh for the walk-off, ending the winning streak.
