The Falcons
  • The Falcons enter the weekend still leading the Lone Star Conference in home runs with 17.  They added to that total yesterday with Cole Dickie's 2-run blast.
  • Newcomer Pedro Astacio has been hot at the plate, leading the team with a .387 batting average and is tied with Marcus Johnson for the team lead with seven runs scored.
  • Michael Clapperton has found his grove at the plate in 2022.  The junior has five extra base hits through 10 games, nearly setting a career high.  Back in 2019 he had seven as a freshman.
  • The Falcons may turn to starters Parker Buys and Mario Macias for the doubleheader.  Buys helped the Falcons knock off Texas A&M – Kingsville last weekend while Macias went seven shutout innings in the series finale.
  • The last three Falcon wins in the series have been by a combined four runs.  This is the first meeting in Austin since the 2015 season.  Previously 10 straight games in the series had been played in Odessa.

The Hilltoppers
  • The team has had strong pitching in 2022, combining for a staff ERA of 4.31 while striking out 84 in eight games.
  • Their offense hasn't produced much power, only hitting three home runs so far this season.  The team doesn't strike out, sitting next to last in the league at 53.
  • Cullen Ainsworth has carried the offense hitting .480, the fourth best mark in the LSC.  He is also second in RBI with 17 and has seven extra base hits.
