Already one of the best players in the Lone Star Conference,
MJ Link showed exactly why on Saturday against Central Washington. The senior finished his illustrious career as a wide receiver for UT Permian Basin by filling in at quarterback for the Falcons. He ran for a touchdown and picked up 103 yards on the ground, while throwing for 83 yards.
The Falcons engineered one of their best drives of the season on their first drive of the game. Twice they converted on fourth down as part of a 19-play, 75-yard drive capped off by a touchdown run by
Gabe Herrera.
The offense struggled in the second quarter leading to the switch to Link after halftime. From there Link took over offensively. He opened their second drive of the half with a 36-yard run. After a pair of completions picked up 21 yards, Link finished the drive with a 27-yard run for the score.
Link continued to power the offense on the next drive, rushing for 25 yards and throwing for another 30 yards but a turnover inside the red zone ended the Falcon drive.
D'Ondre Robinson finished his terrific career with 10 tackles and one hurry.
Hayden Kelly also added 10 tackles and 1.5 for loss.
Kamren Amao had the lone turnover for the Falcons with an interception in the end zone.
Gunnar Abseck had 55 yards on six catches to lead the receivers.
