UT Permian Basin Women's Basketball started with a bang Friday night as four players scored in double figures in their season opening 72-55 win over South Dakota Mines.
Holly Hemmeline led the offense with 15 points while fellow guard
Andreea Mancha added 13 in her Falcon debut.
Alexus Quaadman scored 14 points and added 13 rebounds for her first double-double of the season and
Diavian Spencer added 14 points off the bench, setting a new career high.
The Falcon defense was suffocating in the opening quarter, holding the Hardrockers to 14.3 percent shooting and just six points. The defense didn't allow a point in the second quarter until just under the six-minute mark, after the Falcons extended their lead to 17 points. Seven points in a span of just over a minute from Spencer pushed the Falcons to a 37-10 lead, their largest of the game.
In the second half the Hardrockers made a run thanks to 11 made free throws in but the final outcome was never in doubt down the stretch.
The defense forced 31 turnovers and won the rebound battle 36-30. They were big on the offensive boards with 17 rebounds. The Falcons are back in action tomorrow against Colorado Mesa. Download the UTPB Athletics App to follow the team all season long.
