Scouting the Opponent
The Red Leafs are looking for their first victory of the season. They are 0-3 on the season, scoring just 14 points . The Leafs last win came against Montana State—Northern on Oct. 16 of last season and last beat a Division II foe back in 2019.
Justin Seiber leads the offense under center. He's thrown for 421 yards and two touchdowns against two interceptions. His leading target has been Sam Davenport with 124 yards on 10 catches and a score. Ethan Beselt also has added a touchdown with 91 yards on four catches.
On the ground Somto Anyadike leads the team with 86 yards. On defense they've only been able to sack the quarterback twice while allowing 525.7 yards of total offense per game.
Comeback Kids
Once again the Falcons fell behind early and had to come from behind for a chance to win. The Falcons trailed by 16 in the first half before storming back to take the lead last Saturday. The lead traded hands five times before West Texas A&M knocked home a field goal in the final seconds for the 28-27 final.
Record Breaking
MJ Link continues to torch opposing defenses. Link set a program record with 12 catches for 114 yards and a pair of touchdowns. In two career games against West Texas A&M, Link has 20 catches, 254 yards, and four touchdowns. Link is the program all-time leader in touchdown receptions with 19 and is closing in on other program records. The senior needs 16 catches and 156 yards to become the leader in all three major receiving categories.
Cool Under Center
Dylan Graham has found momentum under center. The sophomore tied the school record for completions in consecutive games with 67 over the last two weeks. Last week he completed 33-of-46 for a 71.7 completion percentage along with two scores. He also became the first player since 2019 to throw for 300 yards in a single game.
Third Down
The key to the game might come down to third down. The Falcons have struggled to convert third downs, only making 24.66 percent of them while the Red Leafs are allowing a whopping 55.56 percent to be converted. On the other side of the ball, the Falcons shut down opponents allowing just a 29.67 conversion rate. The Red Leafs struggle on third down, converting just 18.92 percent of the time.
First Time
The Falcons take on Simon Fraser for the first time. The Red Leafs are the furthest traveling team to the Permian Basin.
