Playing their third road game in five days, UT Permian Basin Volleyball used their stellar defense to silence Western New Mexico in a straight set win on Monday. The Falcons held teh Mustangs to just a .054 hitting percentage and forced more errors than kills in the final two sets of a straight-set sweep/
Five early errors by the Mustangs allowed the Falcons to take the lead early in the opening set. The Falcons would push their lead to five before the Mustangs found a groove to get back into the set. A 7-2 run tied the score at 24 but kills by
Chandra Reed and
Taurie Magee clinched the set.
The Falcons fell behind early in the second set before the defense took over. Five Mustang errors and a kill by
Aquincia Strambler keyed a 6-1 to take the lead in the set. After trading points, a block by
Stephanie Sanchez and a kill by
Logan Terrazas gave the Falcons the lead for good in the set. They closed strong with a 9-2 run to take it 25-17. The third set was a back-and-forth affair for most of the set. The teams traded the lead five times before an ace from
Daylee Doggett sandwiched by two Mustang errors gave the Falcons some breathing room. They took advantage of that space and ended the set on a 7-3 to secure the match.
The Falcons combined for 60 digs and had four players reach double figures. Doggett led the team with 13, while Strambler,
Devin Alcoser, and
