UT Permian Basin Swimming and Diving had a strong showing in the pool over the weekend, taking 23 events in a tri-meet with host Southwestern University and Ouachita Baptist. The Falcons had eight winners in events between all three schools, while 15 came in head-to-head match-ups.
The Falcons dominated on the boards with a sweep in every category.
Carter Wood took home first in the 1m with a score of 305.05 to earn his NCAA Zone Qualification Cut.
Matthew Lenzo also earned his in the event with a second place score of 262.35. In the men's 3m Lenzo was first with a score of 292.05, just beating out Wood at 282.35.
Tristan Negrete had a strong showing with a third place finish at 211.20.
Delaney Murphy was first in both the 1m and 3m women's events. She won the 1, with a score of 212.75 and followed it with a 223.75 in the 3m.
Also taking home event championships on the women's side were Jazzy Tscherne in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:12.41 and
Camille Bouvarel with a time of 2:34.06 in the 200 breast. The men took home two events in the freestyle. Even Siegrist clocked in a time of 9:55.73 in the 1000 free while
Niklas Heelein won the 500 free with a 4:48.80.
Jazzy Tscherne edged out Ouachita Baptist with a time of 1:00.98 in the 100 back to win that head-to-head battle. Against Southwestern, the Falcons won 14 races. Both 200 medlay relays won. The women clocked in at 1:54.85 with Tscherne, Bouvarel,
Victoria Senus, and
Gabriela Gonzalez taking it home. The men's team of
Legend Jankowski,
Axel Torres Hecker,
Szymon Gilzynski, and
Trevor Heath clocked in at 1:38.32.
Emma Gerhardt took the 1,000 and 500 free events while
Avery Joiner beat the Pirates in the 200 free. Bouvarel had a strong showing to take the 100 breast while Marcela Hernandez Flores knocked off the Pirates in the 200 fly. The Falcons were equally as strong on the men's side in freesyle events with
Jackson Nace taking the 200, Isaac Velasquez the 100 free, and Heath the 50.
Owen Putnam in the 200 butterfly and Gilznski in the 100 butterfly also beat out the Pirates. The men closed the day with a win over the hosts in the 400 relay comprised of Heath, Nace,
Armando Flores, and Velasquez.
