MJ Link had a monster night for UT Permian Basin Football, setting a program single game record with 12 catches for 114 yards and a pair of scores. He had it going with quarterback
Dylan Graham who became the first Falcon since 2019 to throw for over 300 yards in a game. Graham finished with 306 on the night and was 33-for-46 through the air. Graham tied Taylor Null for the most completions in consecutive games with 67.
After a slow start offensively, the Falcon offense found rhythm in the second quarter.
Dylan Graham found
Marcus Molina on the sideline for a 20-yard strike.
Jeremiah Venson and
Gunnar Abseck caught the next two passes to move the ball to the Buff side of the field. Graham then launched a perfect pass over the middle to find a streaking Link for their first touchdown of the night.
The energized offense kept the momentum rolling on the next drive. Graham found Molina again, this time over the middle, for a 19-yard gain. On the next play,
Kory Harris got in the action with a 27-yard rush down to the six-yard-line. The Falcons capped off the drive with a trick play with running back
Antonio Malone tossing a touchdown to Link off a pitch play. Both sides had an opportunity to score before the half but went into the locker room 16-14 in favor of the Buffs.
On the first play of the second half the Buffs connected on a 55-yard pass, but
Donta Stuart dislodged it at the seven.
Jaques Tyler picked it up and returned it 16 yards to set up the Falcon offense. A long, 16-play drive highlighted by a 20-yard catch by Link gave the Falcons their first lead of the game on a 34-yard field goal by
Carson Roberts.
After the Buffs retook the lead on a field goal, the offense went right back to work with a 12-play scoring drive. Graham got things going with a 16-yard completion to
Ethan Leyva before a 13-yard run by Malone. Two plays later, Malone gashed the defense again for 11 yards to get the Falcons within scoring range. Later on third-and-goal Graham found
Jeremiah Venson to go back on top 24-19.
After the Buffs again retook the lead, the Falcons responded with a nine-play drive ending in a field goal by Roberts. The Buffs had a chance to retake the lead again, but Gage Urias' 36-yard attempt sailed wide left.
Malone had a team-high 58 yards on the ground. Molina had four catches for 66 yards.
Justen Campbell and
Jalon Rocquemore had 11 tackles each.
The Falcons are back in the Basin next week against Simon Fraser. They'll host the Red Leafs in their Homecoming Game at Ratliff Stadium. Download the UTPB Athletics App to follow the team all season long.
