It was a big night for UT Permian Basin Volleyball's stars as they came back from down a set to dispatch St. Edward's Thursday night.
Analise Lucio had her first 50 assist night of the season, while
Taurie Magee had a career high 17 kills.
Aquincia Strambler moved into third place in the Lone Star Conference with a 17-kill performance and
Isela Murillo was brilliant on both sides of the ball with 13 kills and 13 digs. Defensively
Daylee Doggett set the tone with 21 digs with
Erika Lozano adding in 17, as four Falcons reached double digit digs.
The Falcons started hot thanks to back-to-back errors by the Hilltoppers. Two more errors, an ace from Doggett, and a Murillo kill had the Falcons up four before the Hilltoppers came back to tie the set. The teams traded points before the Hilltoppers took four of the last five to take the tightly contested set 25-23.
In set two it was the Hilltoppers turn to start fast, jumping out to a 6-1 lead. The Falcons chipped away at the deficit before taking the lead on a kill by
Chandra Reed to cap a 3-0 run. Both sides traded long scoring runs but the Falcons pulled ahead 21-16. The Hilltoppers came right back with a 7-1 run to lead late in the second set. Errors down the stretch cost them, as the Falcons took the free points and the 27-25 set victory.
The Hilltoppers once again jumped out to the early lead in the third set. Much like the second the Falcons chipped away and took the lead halfway through set. The teams continued to exchange blows, but it was the Falcons who dominated late. Trailing by two, the Falcons scored the final six points of the set for the win. Strambler and Magee flexed their muscle with two kills each in the run.
Looking to close things out the Falcons took the lead early in a tight fourth set. The Falcons played ahead the entire time, but never led by more than four points but comfortably took the final set 25-21 for their third LSC win of the season.
Lucio also added 13 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. Magee was a menace defensively with four of the Falcons eight blocks on the night. Doggett and Murillo had a terrific night receiving for the Falcons, committing just two errors on 53 attempts.
