In their final game of the regular season, UT Permian Basin Baseball's offense was clicking early against St. Edward's. The Falcons launched a pair of home runs in the first four innings, including one off the bat of
Peyton Koopman playing in his final game at Roden Field. Fellow upperclassman
Cole Dickie also homered to close the year strong.
The Falcons got things started early, with a walk to lead-off man
Pemron Burrows.
Jay DeSoto moved him to third on a hit-and-run single to set the Falcons up out of the gates.
Nick Hernandez doubled down the left field line to score Burrows for the first run of the game. Dickie added to the lead in the second with a solo home run to left leading off the inning.
In the third, the Hilltoppers got on the board and took a 3-2 lead but the Falcons answered right back. Hernandez started things with a one-out single. Two batters later, Koopman crushed a first pitch fastball to left to retake a 4-3 lead. The Falcons added a run in the eighth on a single by Dickie to bring in
Paul McRae. McRae, normally a pitcher, had pinch run for Hernandez who singled earlier in the inning. Falcon pitching struggled to contain the Hilltoppers and fell 19-5.
Hernandez made his case for a spot on the All-Conference Team with three hits and finished the year batting .368 with 10 home runs and 46 RBI. Dickie finished the season with three multi-hit games in his final four contests to raise his season average to .302. The Falcons finished the year batting .287 as a team and averaged exactly seven runs a game.
