Camacho Earns First Collegiate Win as Falcon Offense Erupts for 13 Runs

UT Permian Basin Softball's offense exploded for eight runs in the top of the sixth on Sunday to earn a road win over Eastern New Mexico 13-3.  Five Falcons had multi-hit games including three each from April Arellano and Rylie ReedAracely Araiza drove in four while Abby Hernandez had three RBI off the bench.  Sierra Camacho earned the first win of her Falcon career, throwing 6.0 innings and striking out four in the effort.

The Falcon offense was humming in game two of the day.  Two singles and a walk loaded the bases in the first inning before Lani Graft worked a walk for the early lead.  Both pitchers settled into a grove until the fourth when the Falcons added on four runs.

Leslie Martinez singled to start things off before Reed followed with a single.  Nayeli Diaz singled through the right side to bring in Martinez and move Reed to third.  Diaz then swiped second to put runners in scoring position.  Alice Marion followed with an opposite field single for another run before she stole second to get into scoring position.  After two groundouts, Araiza singled to left to score Diaz and Marion to blow the game open at 5-0.

The offense poured it on in the sixth.  Hernandez was hit by a pitch to start the inning and moved to second on a bunt single by Arellano.  Araiza followed with a two-run double and moved to third on the throw.  After Ashlynn Bradley was plunked, she stole second and the throw went into centerfield allowing Araiza to score.  Bradley came around to score on a single by Martinez to push the lead to 9-0.  Later in the inning, the Falcons loaded the bases for Hernandez who cleared them with a double to left center for the 12-run lead.  Arellano singled for the second time in the inning to bring in Hernandez for the 13th run of the game for the Falcons. The Greyhounds scored three in the bottom of the sixth, but it wasn't nearly enough as the Falcons won 13-3.

The first game of the afternoon needed extra innings to be decided.  The Falcons struck first just three batters into the game when Arellano's double to left drove home Martinez.  In the third, the Falcons added to their lead when Araiza scored on a ground ball off the bat of Mia Quintero.  After the Greyhounds battled back to tie the game, the Falcons retook the lead in the sixth on a double by Marion.  The Greyhounds tied the game in the sixth to force extra innings where they scored on a sacrifice fly in the eighth for the 4-3 final.

Arellano had five hits between the two games along with two RBI.  Araiza had four hits on the game and her four RBI.  Marion and Reed had three hits each while Hernandez, Martinez, and Diaz had two each.
