It was a tale of two halves for UT Permian Basin Men's Soccer and Dallas Baptist Tuesday night in Dallas. Despite the Patriots controlling the ball for much of the second half, a late goal by
Joel Hope in the 80
th minute carried the Falcons to the 3-2 victory and into first place in the Lone Star Conference halfway through the season.
The first half was all Falcons as they kept possession on the Patriot side and in the 15
th minute
Gustavo Barroso found the back of the net for the early 1-0 lead. The Patriots found an offensive rhythm and netted an equalizer in the 25
th minute. In the 36
th minute the Falcons took back the lead on a great set up pass from Hope and shot off the boot of
Rodrigo Rogatto who found the top right corner of the net to give the Falcons a 2-1 lead at the half.
The second half was a much different story for the Falcons. The Patriots were the ones controlling the half with possession and in the 52
nd minute tied the game 2-2. The Falcons made their best chance of the half count. Playing with the wind,
Ollie Grundy's long throw-in went over the head of the keeper onto the foot of Hope who tapped it into the back of the net for the lead. The team used the momentum from the goal to run out the clock and secure the 3-2 victory.
The Falcons next match will be back in Odessa as they face West Texas A&M on Tuesday at 5 PM. Follow Men's Soccer along with all your other Falcon teams by downloading the UTPB Athletics App today.
