It didn't take long for UT Permian Basin Baseball's offense to get rolling on Saturday when Jojo Allen hit a grand slam over the center field wall to put the Falcons up 4-0 after the first inning. Allen powered the Falcons with seven RBI in their 14-12 victory over Eastern New Mexico.
The Falcons added a pair runs in the third off of the bat of
Hayden Matthewson to score
Peyton Koopman and Allen to go up 6-2. After the Greyhounds rallied and took the lead, the Falcons got rolling again in the fifth on a double down the left field line by Allen driving in
Nick Hernandez. Matthewson drove in
Jay DeSoto later in the inning for the Falcons to cut the deficit to two.
The Falcons got the lead back in the sixth inning. DeSoto hit a sacrifice fly to center to score
Michael Clapperton and Allen drove in two runs with a single up the middle plating
Torren Brozovich and Garrett Thornton to tie the game at 11. The Falcons took the lead on a pinch-hit single by Colin Fabio to left scoring Allen for the 12-11 advantage after six innings.
Hernandez added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth inning, hitting a two-run home run to left scoring Thornton. The Greyhounds would get one more run in the ninth but it wasn't enough as the Falcons won the game 14-12.
Jojo Allen led the offense going 3-for-4 driving in his seven runs, crossing the plate three times and stole a base.
Nick Hernandez went 3-for-5 on the day, scoring three times, and driving in two runs. Garrett Thornton went 2-for-3 scoring three runs.
Hayden Matthewson went 1-for-4 driving in three runs.
Johnathan Rice came in relief for the Falcons throwing three innings, allowing one run off of two hits and striking out seven Greyhounds. Jake Rhode came into the game for the final inning closing out the game and earning the save.
