After two hits Sunday afternoon, senior
April Arellano is now just two hits away from reaching the 100-hit plateau for her UT Permian Basin Softball career. Arellano would become the seventh player in program history to reach that milestone.
Arellano recorded the first of her hits with a frozen rope into the left center field gap for a double before adding a single along with a walk in the second game. The Falcon offense was kept quiet by Texas A&M International, throwing two of the best pitchers in the Lone Star Conference including Erika Cortez who was named the Division II Pitcher of the Week last week. The only other offense for the Falcons was a double in the second inning of game two by
Lani Graft.
The Falcons hung early with the red-hot Dustdevils in game one, but their offense broke through late for the 14-0 final. In game two of the day, they struck the Falcons for three in the second and four in the fourth for the 8-0 final.
Becky Berth allowed just three earned over 4.1 innings while striking out a pair.
Marissa Salinas struck out three in 2.2 innings of relief.
The Falcons will take Easter weekend off before resuming play April 9 in San Antonio against St. Mary's. Download the UTPB Athletics App for the latest news and schedules on all your favorite Falcon teams.
