Un-Falcon-Defeated!! UTPB Football Puts Exclamation Mark on Historic Season

It took the first overtime game in program history, but UT Permian Basin Football capped off an undefeated spring with a 22-21 victory over Midwestern State.  The Falcons went for two in the overtime period, with Brayden Thomas finding Kobe Robinson on an out route to grab the win.

In the overtime period the Falcons faced fourth-and-six from the nine after the Mustangs scored to open the extra period.  With the season on the line, Brayden Thomas found tight end Matt Zubiate in the corner for the touchdown. Rather than going for the tie, the Falcons decided to go for it all, calling a bootleg to the right as Robinson broke for the pylon.  The freshman Thomas found Robinson setting off the celebration.

The Falcons fell behind early after Thomas threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown.  The Falcon offense got going right before the half.  Garrett Loudermilk broke off a 24-yard run before Thomas hit Robinson over the middle for a 38-yard game.  Two plays later, Thomas found Robinson over the middle for a 16-yard strike to tie the game at seven.  The offense broke through at the end of the third quarter, with Loudermilk punching it in from two yards out to take the lead.  Late in the fourth quarter, the Falcons had a chance to ice the game after a penalty nullified a Mustang touchdown.  Facing fourth-and-six with under a minute to go, the Mustangs found the end zone to tie the game and force overtime.

Making his second straight start, Thomas threw for 251 yards and a pair of touchdowns.  Loudermilk led the ground attack with 80 yards and his first rushing touchdown.  MJ Link had a huge day receiving with nine catches for 105 yards.  Robinson had four catches for 73 yards and the touchdown.  Defensively Jamil Pittman led the team with eight tackles, forced two fumbles, and recovered one.  Donta Stuart picked off a pass in the third quarter setting up the second Falcon touchdown.  Miquon Mayes had a pair of sacks while Victor Idusuyi added one. Before the Mustangs score late in the final minute of the fourth quarter, the Falcon defense had not allowed a score in nine quarters.

The victory is the first for the Falcons over Midwestern State and extended the program's winning streak to six games dating back to last season.  The Falcons will return to action in the fall with the schedule to be announced shortly.  Download the UTPB Athletics App for the latest news on all your favorite Falcon teams.
