Andress Electrifies Offense with Huge Day at the Plate

Emily Andress had a monster day at the plate against one of the nations best pitching staffs.  The freshman went 4-for-4 with two triples, a double, two RBI, and scored twice against No. 14 Texas A&M – Kingsville.  She also singled in the first game of the doubleheader giving her five hits on the day.  Andress raised her batting average 73 points while driving in the first two runs of her career.

The Falcons fell behind early in game one, but immediately got on the board.  Alice Marion and Andress worked the count to start the game forcing the Javelina starter to throw 23 pitches to record two outs.  Aracely Araiza singled to put a runner on before being driven in on a double down the rightfield line by Ashlynn Bradley.  The Falcons scored again in the fifth when Andress reached on a single.  Araiza drove her in with a double to left for their second run of the game.  It wasn't as the Javelinas added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh for the 7-2 final.

The offense jumped all over Javelina pitching in game two.  Marion got things started with a double down the line.  Andress followed with a line drive into the rightfield corner for an RBI-triple.  Araiza followed with a double down the leftfield line for the 2-0 lead.  The Javelinas then struggled to find the plate.  Walks to April Arellano and Marissa Salinas loaded the bases for Choco Munoz who promptly worked a walk for a third run.  Sydney Bishop lifted a sac fly to right to score another run and the Falcons led 4-0 after an inning.

Neither offense could get a rhythm going until the fifth when the Javelinas scored seven times to take the lead.  The Falcons answered right back in the bottom half of the inning with a pair.  Once again it was Andress starting things off with a double.  She moved over to third after Ashlynn Bradley reached on an error by the second baseman.  Arellano laced a line drive into the right field corner to score the pair and cut the deficit to 7-6.

The Falcons tied the score in their half of the sixth.  Marion got things going with a seeing-eye single to get things going.  Andress followed with her second triple of the day, scoring Marion and tying the score at seven heading into the seventh.  The Javelinas retook the lead with a pair of home runs as part of a four-run inning.  The Falcons refused to go quietly.  Bradley started things with a single and was followed by walks to Arellano and Salinas to load the bases.  That's as close as they'd get as the Falcons couldn't push a run across despite the threat for the 11-7 final.

Berth combined for 6.2 innings and a pair of strikeouts between both games.  Marissa Salinas struck out four over three innings, pitching in both contests.

At the plate Ashlynn Bradley also had a big day with three hits and a double and an RBI.  Araiza also had three hits including a double and two RBI.  Marion had two hits on the day as did Arellano who also added a pair of RBI.
