It took all 90 minutes, but UT Permian Basin Men's Soccer stunned Texas A&M International for a 2-1 victory on
Ollie Grundy's goal in the final two seconds of regulation.
The Falcons got off to a fast start offensively registering a pair of shots on the Dustdevils early in the match. The Falcon defense also played well early holding the Dustdevils to the 24
th minute before registering a shot on goal.
It looked like the Dustdevils might head into halftime up 1-0, but the Falcons equalized the score late in the half. Off a corner kick,
Joel Hope's foot found a bouncing ball and put it in the back of the net to tie the game in the 37
th minute. Both teams remained deadlocked deep into the second half until the 89:58 mark when Grundy scored the winning goal in the top left corner from
Matias Pereira for the 2-1 victory.
Chance Arney,
Sebastian Bastillejos,
Rodrigo Rogatto, and
Brandon Bernal all had shots on goal for the Falcons.
Alfonso Aragon had three saves in net for the Falcons, including a clutch save on a penalty kick late in the first half.
The Falcons finished with seven shots on goal and nine total, while holding the Dustdevils to just five shots on goal. It was the Falcons first win over the Dustdevils since 2017, and only the second for the program over their long-time conference foe since 2013.
