Falcon Football by the Numbers in 2021

12/1/2021 5:03:00 PM

Heading into the first bowl game in UT Permian Basin history has had a record-setting season.  The Falcons travel to Corsicana to face off with Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday, December, 4 in the Fun Town RV Heritage Bowl.

This season has been a year of many firsts, going all the way to their 5-0 spring season.  Here's a look at the team by the numbers.

10 – The Falcons won 10 games this calendar year.  During the year the Falcons won six games total over Lone Star Conference opponents, including wins over West Texas A&M and eventual Lone Star Conference Champion Midwestern State.

28.7 – That's how many points per game the Falcons averaged this fall, the most the program has averaged in a single season.

3 – Three games over 40 points for the Falcons, a program record.

75 – On October 9 the Falcons set a program record for points in a game and margin of victory over Lincoln (CA).

0 – Points allowed in that game against Lincoln, the first shutout in program history.

20 – Touchdown passes this season by Falcon quarterbacks.  That's one behind the team record for a season.

8 – Touchdown receptions by MJ Link, setting a single season program record.  Link was named to the All-LSC First Team after adding 628 receiving yards.

27 – Interceptions this calendar year by the Falcons.  In their last 15 games the Falcons have made life difficult for opposing quarterbacks.  In the fall the Falcons picked off a program record 15 passes, led by four from Jaques Tyler.

2 – Number of kick returns for a touchdown for the Falcons after having none through the first four years of the program.  In the spring against Lincoln (MO) Kobe Robinson had the first one in program history and in the fall Jayvon Davis returned one 99 yards against Lincoln (CA).

5 – Times a Falcon had two interceptions in a single game.  No Falcon had accomplished this feat in the program's first four seasons before doing it five times in the last 15 games.

3 – Weeks the Falcons received votes in a national poll, the first such instances in program history.

8 – Falcons named to the All-LSC Team.  MJ Link earned First Team honors while Carson Roberts earned Second Team honors.  Six others were conference honorable mentions.
