Scouting the Opponent

Midwestern State is 14-1, 6-0 on the year and they are ranked sixth in the nation in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. The Mustangs only loss came against then fifth ranked West Texas A&M on September 22.  The Mustangs have won eight matches in a row dating back to September 29.  Against ranked opponents the Mustangs are 4-1, but they have played in back-to-back one score games heading into their match with the Falcons.

Offensively the Mustangs are led by Trevor Amann with 12 goals while Julian Barajas has six assists. Defensively the Mustangs are anchored by Marc-Antoine Huzen who has allowed 14 goals while saving 38. He has seven shutouts in the 15 matches he has started.

Series History

This is the 11th meeting between the two teams and it will be the first meeting in Wichita Falls since 2017.

Your Falcons

The Falcons are coming off a week where they had their best offensive production since their Colorado trip at the beginning of the season. The Falcons put up five goals in two matches and picked up a key victory against Oklahoma Christian to stay alive for a Lone Star Conference Playoff berth.  Against No. 25 West Texas A&M the Falcons scored three goals and led at the half. The goals came from Victor Radilla on a terrific solo effort, Leonardo Bonelli off a corner kick, and Gustavo Barroso on a penalty kick.

The Falcons have showed that they are finishing their opportunities late in the season. The offensive pressure hasn't been an issue for the Falcons this year. In their win against Oklahoma Christian Kasper Wallstroem got the offense started with a move by the keeper and scored on an open net goal. Barroso also added a goal later on a rebounded shot from Wallstroem for the Falcon victory.

Barroso is not only leading the Falcons in offense but is making a splash in the LSC. He is sitting in a tie for third in shots on goal with 21 and he is tied for eighth in goals with five. Salvador Vargas Ramos is tied for sixth in assists with four.

Alfonso Aragon eclipsed 200 saves as a Falcon in his career last week as he is only the third Falcon to do so. He sits third in program history in career saves as he is 18 away from being in sole possession of second place and 32 away from being the all-time saves leader dating back to 2009. Aragon leads not only the team but the LSC in saves with 69 in the 14 matches he has played in.
