Falcon Defense Suffocates Another RMAC Opponent

Box Score UT Permian Basin Women's Basketball's defense found their form in Colorado as they forced 32 turnovers and collected 23 steals against Colorado Christian on Friday.
 
Ally Haman led the charge in steals with six as Avalon Munoz and Ogechi Nwodo tied for second on the team with four each.
 
The first quarter saw both offenses get on a roll, but it was the Falcons who had the 23-18 advantage in the end as they shot 5-7 from beyond the arc. Haman started the scoring for the Falcons two seconds into the game off the tip off. Morgan Helgesen scored the next five points as the Falcons trailed by one with 6:47 left in the quarter. The Falcons ended the quarter on a 9-2 run as Kamari Portalis hit two threes during the run.
 
The defenses shined in the second quarter as there was a combined 13 points between both teams. Nwodo hit the final two baskets of the quarter as the Falcons took a four-point lead into the locker room.
 
The Falcons and Cougars each traded baskets the entire third quarter until the Cougars made a five-point run starting at the 3:01 mark. Nwodo hit a layup at the buzzer to give the Falcons a 44-41 lead heading into the fourth.
 
The final quarter of regulation saw the Falcons get as much as a six-point lead with 4:02 left in the quarter, but the Cougars took it into overtime on an 8-2 run to end regulation 51-51.
 
After the Cougars hit a layup to start overtime the Falcons scored five straight to take back the lead. They had the lead until the Cougars tied it twice including once with five seconds remaining to go to a second overtime.
 
Popham was the star for the Falcons in the second overtime as she scored six points by hitting two baskets beyond the arc, but it wasn't enough as the Cougars won 69-66.
 
Popham led the Falcons with 16 points as Helgesen, Haman, and Portalis had seven points each. Alexus Quaadman had three blocks and 13 rebounds including eight on the offensive side.
