Trailing two sets to none, UT Permian Basin Volleyball came all the way back to upset No. 13 UT Tyler on senior day. The Falcons handed the Patriots only their second loss of the season with the other at the hands of No. 6 Angelo State. In the final two sets the Falcons had 27 kills to only two errors.
After struggling for the first two sets, the Falcon offense came to life in the third. The team came out firing to take a 9-7 lead. The teams traded rallies before the Patriots grabbed a one-point lead. Momentum completely turned there, as
Aquincia Strambler had a pair of kills followed by a pair of
Analise Lucio aces as part of a 4-0 run. Strambler added two more kills, as did Lucio, as the Falcons fought back to take the set 25-21.
They needed a comeback in the fourth set as the Patriots led by a pair late. A pair of kills by
Mayce Barker followed by one by
Chandra Reed keyed a 5-1 Falcon run to swing things in their favor. Four errors down the stretch by the Patriots allowed the Falcons to take the set and force a decisive fifth.
It was all Falcons in the fifth. Three straight Strambler kills sparked a 6-0 run to completely take control.
Taurie Magee finished things off with her 15
th kill of the contest and the upset victory.
Strambler had a season high 21 kills and recorded her first double-double of the season with 10 digs. Lucio had 52 assists, her second straight game over 50, along with 10 digs. Magee finished with 15 kills on a .520 hitting percentage.
Daylee Doggett led the Falcons with 16 digs as the defense held the Patriots to a 0.05 hitting percentage in the fifth set. It was the first time all season the Patriots went to a fifth set.
