Freshman Ties Touchdown Record as Falcons Return to Ratliff

10/9/2021 11:43:00 PM

Box Score Jayvon Davis continues to electrify the UT Permian Basin Football offense as the freshman tied the program record for touchdowns in a game with three on Saturday.  Davis set the tone early as he returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown and ran for two more on the night.  He led the Falcons with 98 rushing yards as the team combined for 309 on the night, the fourth most in a single game in program history.

The Falcons controlled the game all night rewriting the record books along the way in their 75-0 win over Lincoln (CA).  The team set a new single game record for points (75), margin of victory (75), and capped off the first shutout in program history.

Just four minutes after Davis returned the opening kick for a score, the Falcon defense got on the board.  A hard hit by JT Walker on a sack stripped the quarterback and resulted in a safety.  On the ensuing Falcon drive, Clayton Roberts hit MJ Link along the sideline, who used some fancy footwork to stay in bounds, for the 44-yard touchdown.  Later in the quarter it was Davis who capped off an 11-play, 80-yard drive with a 22-yard touchdown.  The offense was kept quiet much of the second quarter but it was Roberts who found Kobe Robinson in the corner of the end zone for the 30-0 halftime lead.

The Falcons could not be contained in the second half.  They started the half with a bang, as Trent Ward intercepted the first play from scrimmage 60 yards for the touchdown.  Carson Roberts knocked home a 34-yard field goal and was followed by long touchdown runs by Davis and Suddin Sapien

They added to their lead late, as Kevin Young Jr. and Nathan Tilford punched it in for their first rushing touchdowns as Falcons.  With just under seven minutes to go, Dorian Anderson tipped a pass off an offensive lineman's helmet right into his hands for a pick six.

Davis tied a record set by Robinson in the spring with three touchdowns in a game, which came against Lincoln (MO).  Robinson also returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown and is the only other Falcon to return a kickoff for a touchdown in a game.

Tilford finished the night with 94 yards while Young Jr. picked up 43.  Back-up quarterback Sapien ran for 47 total yards.  Link caught the 10th touchdown of his career, becoming the third player in program history to do so.

The defense held the Oaklanders to 141 total yards of offense and just 28 rushing yards.  Their best scoring chance on the night came off an interception.  Set up deep in the red zone, the next play was intercepted by D'Ondre Robinson, the fifth of his career.

Next up is a huge Lone Star Conference match-up at Angelo State with kickoff at 6 PM.  To follow the Falcons download the UTPB Athletics App today.
