In just her second game as a Falcon,
Taurie Magee made her presence felt on the court. The junior transfer led the UT Permian Basin attack with nine kills on 13 attempts for a .462 hitting percentage. She added in four digs and a block and now leads the team with 17 kills.
Playing No. 15 Angelo State in the second of back-to-back nights, the Falcons looked to get out to a fast start. Magee started strong with kills on two of the first three Falcon points as they kept pace with the Rambelles. The Falcons forced four errors in the first set but couldn't put together a big enough run to take the set.
The Falcon offense found more consistency early in the second set. They struck early and pulled ahead with a three-point run featuring back-to-back kills by
Aquincia Strambler. The Rambelles mirrored the run, but the Falcons responded. Kills by
Isela Murillo and Magee along with a Rambelle error pushed the lead back to three. The Falcons led by as many as four points, but a six-point Rambelle run put them ahead. The teams traded points, but the Falcons gave up the final two points of the set and went into the third trailing 2-0.
Magee added to her night with a pair of kills in the third set, while Strambler and
Marissa Aguilar added a pair of kills as well. The Falcon offense couldn't find a grove and fell on the night in three sets.
Strambler was second on the team with seven kills, while Aguilar added in six.
Analise Lucio once again led the way in assists with 17.
Lanai Hurd carried the defense with 22 digs and had the team's lone ace on the night.
The Falcons stay home and will take on Lubbock Christian in a two-game series, starting Tuesday.
