Volleyball Reinforces Middle for 2020 Season

7/28/2020 4:00:00 PM

UT Permian Basin Volleyball is ready to build on its momentum in 2020 following one of the best seasons in program history.  The Falcons have reloaded with a blend of experience and potential after graduating three key players.  Head Coach Tim Loesch has announced the signings of three middle hitters and a libero as they look to replicate the success from last season's 20-win team.

Taurie Magee joins the Falcons after two successful years at the college level.  Magee played at the College of Southern Nevada last season where she was an All-Conference Honorable Mention and finished third on the team in kills.  Prior to that, the Altadena, California native played at Virginia Union where as a freshman she earned Second Team All-Conference honors.  Magee was a two-time First Team All-League member and named Second Team All-District as a senior at Pasadena High School.

Fellow transfer Cassandra Rother joins her up the middle.  Rother comes from Caldwell College where she was fifth on the Cougars with 85 kills as a freshman and a Rookie of the Year nominee.  She was the team's leader in hitting percentage and aces while finishing second in blocks.  Rother was a regular part of the rotation as the Cougars won 14 games in Division II's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.  The Fresno, California native was on the Clovis West High School varsity team for three years where she was a team captain and earned All-Academic honors all three years.

Also plugging up the middle will be freshman Chandra Reed from Thrall, Texas where she was a four-year starter on the Thrall High School varsity team.  As a senior captain, Reed led Thrall to the regional finals while leading the team in kill percentage and blocks.  She was a two-time First Team All-District honoree, TGCA All-State, Vype All-State Honorable Mention, and District Newcomer of the Year.  She helped her team reach the state semi-finals in 2017, regional semi-finals in 2019, and regional finals in 2020.

Lastly is Daylee Doggett a libero from Northwest High School in Fort Worth.  Doggett started as an outside hitter before transitioning to defensive specialist and then libero.  At Northwest High she was a three-year varsity letter, three-year academic All-District, 2020 First Team All-District, and holds school records with 5.12 digs per set, 2.7 passing average and 560 total digs.

"We have high expectations for these recruits," said Loesch.  "I see Daylee developing into a great libero, by learning from out outstanding senior defenders.  Taurie, Cassandra, and Chandra will have big shoes to fill.  I believe they can help continue our tradition of having dominant middle attackers and blockers in the Lone Star Conference."
