Abrie Castillo was brilliant, holding Eastern New Mexico to three runs in a complete game victory over the Greyhounds Friday night. Castillo picked up her fifth win of the season in a 4-3 win. In the first game of the day the Falcons fell 9-7 on a walk-off home run.
The Falcons (12-12, 3-3) fell behind early before striking back in the third. Alice Marion got things going with a one-out triple. She came into score on a single by
Valerie Gonzalez to tie the score. Two batters later,
Jessica Gonzales doubled to bring in Gonzalez and take the 2-1 lead.
Sydney Bishop homered in the fourth to give the Falcons a crucial insurance run. They scored again on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Gonzales to go up 4-1. That run proved crucial as the Greyhounds (7-8, 1-1) scored twice in their half of the inning. Castillo allowed just one hit over the final two innings for the win.
Marissa Salinas started things off for the Falcons in the first game with a two-run single. The Falcons added two more in the fourth on a two-run single by
April Arellano to go up 4-1. An errant throw brought home another run in the sixth. The Greyhounds scored three in the sixth to tie the ballgame. The Falcons retook the lead in the seventh on an RBI-double by
Aracely Araiza and a single by
Leslie Martinez. The lead wouldn't last as they Greyhounds scored four in the seventh for the walk-off win.
Valerie Gonzalez, Arellano, Gonzales, Araiza,
Alyssa Lopez each had at least two hits with Gonzalez having four between the two games. The home run by Bishop was the first of her career.
The Falcons are back in action Sunday in Canyon as they take on West Texas A&M.
