UT Permian Basin Men's Basketball's season came to an end Tuesday, but not for a lack of three-pointers. The Falcons knocked down 16 as a team, but couldn't overcome a slow start and fell 84-68 to Tarleton.
Pat Dembley finished as the team's leading scorer with 20 points.
The Falcons struggled to get going from the field early, starting 2-for-18 and fell behind by 30 in the first half. Freshman
Deaunte Lee got things going, knocking down threes on back to back possessions.
Isaac Hernandez followed with a three of his own, and four more points by Lee brought the Falcons back within 21.
Fermandez Jones had a five-point swing of his own cut the deficit by 14 in just about four minutes.
The Falcons came out shooting in the second half. Dembley got things going with a three and
Adam Rivera hit a pair of threes to keep the team alive.
Miles Washington converted on a three-point play and Hernandez drained another three and the Falcons trailed just 57-46 with over 13 minutes to go. That was as close as the Falcons would get as the Texans went on a 15-2 run to pull away. The Falcons made things interesting late, as
Malik Anderson and Dembley hit a pair of threes but it was too late.
Dembley did most of his damage in the second half, scoring 17 points and hit four threes. Rivera had all 12 of his points come in the second half, while Lee had all 10 of his points in the first. Rivera also finished with a team-high seven rebounds. As a team, the Falcons connected on 10 three-pointers in the second half.
