Kristian James and
Yazmin Batch went out with a bang on Senior Day. James set a new career-high with 22 points while Batch added 12 in an all-around impressive game. The Falcons had five score in double figures, including another double-double by
Alexus Quaadman who also set the the program record for rebounds in a single season. It wasn't enough to overcome Angelo State in a tight 86-79 battle in the Falcons season finale.
The Falcons (10-18, 7-15) fell behind early despite five points by Batch in the opening minutes. Trailing by seven, Hemmeline knocked down a couple of threes and James and Batch added baskets and put the Falcons ahead. In the final minute of the first, James drained a three and the Falcons led 22-19 after a quarter. The Rambelles (17-9, 14-8) started the second quarter with a run, taking a six point lead before the teams traded baskets for the remainder of the quarter.
The Rambelles push their lead to 15, before the Falcons made a run to get back into the game. A Batch three started a 9-0 Falcon run to get back to within six. After trading points again, the Falcons went into the fourth down nine. Trailing by 11 with 5:43 to go, the Falcon freshman got hot from deep.
Rory Carter knocked down a pair of threes and
Holly Hemmeline hit a pair of threes to bring the deficit to just two. That was as close as they'd get as the Rambelles stayed just in front for the final three minutes to hold on.
James went all out in her final collegiate game, scoring 22 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Quaadman had a monster double-double, grabbing a new career-high of 16 rebounds to set the new single-season program record for rebounds. The freshman will finish with 214 boards, beating the previous record of 211 set by Miesha Blackshear in 2009-10. She recorded a double-double in her final three games giving her eight on the season. Hemmeline finished with 18 points while Carter added 12 off the bench along with six steals.
The Falcons finished the 2019-20 season with a 10-18 record and a program record seven wins in the Lone Star Conference. The team finished with 353 steals, the most since Head Coach
Rae Boothe took over the program in 2017-18.
