Marissa Salinas had a monster day against Eastern New Mexico, going 4-for-4 with two home runs, a double and six RBI to carry the Falcon offense. Salinas finished a triple shy of the cycle, but it wasn't enough as the Falcons fell 14-9 in a high scoring affair.
After falling behind early,
April Arellano got the Falcons (8-10) on the board in the second with an RBI-double to bring home Salinas. The Falcon offense got going again in the third, striking for three runs. Salinas drove in a pair on a single to center, bringing home
Jessica Gonzales and
Abby Hernandez. Arellano followed with a sacrifice fly to score
Lani Graft and make it a 5-4 Greyhound lead.
The Falcons erupted in the fourth, scoring four times to take the lead. Graft brought home Hernandez on a single and an error put runners on second and third for Salinas. The junior then blasted a three-run home run to give the Falcons the lead. The lead wouldn't last, as the Greyhounds scored in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to retake the lead. Salinas homered again in the seventh to make it a 14-9 game before the final out.
While Salinas carried the offense, Arellano and Gonzales each collected a pair of hits. Arellano drove in a pair of runs and doubled as well.
The Falcons are home next Tuesday for their home opener against the University of the Southwest starting at 2.
