Araiza Continues Torrid Start for Falcons

Aracely Araiza is now hitting .439 on the season after her performance today in Lubbock, TX. Araiza went 2-3 against West Texas A&M with a double. Araiza is now 18-43 on the season with six runs scored and eight runs driven in. She has five doubles, one triple and one home run.

UT Permian Softball team competed in the LCU Invitational against Lubbock Christian University and West Texas A&M University on Saturday.

The Falcons could not get anything going offensively in the first game against the Lady Chaps. Alicia Marion started off the game with a single up the middle, but a couple of ground outs after Marion's single ended the inning. Nayeli Diaz recorded the other single for the Falcons in the fifth inning followed by Alyssa Lopez being hit by a pitch got the Falcons in scoring position, but could not bring in the run as they drop the first game 13-0 against the Lady Chaps.

Game two against West Texas A&M started better for the Falcons. The Falcons soared to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second after Lani Graft walked, Aracely Araiza doubled to third and Sydney Bishop hit a sacrifice fly to third scoring Graft for the 1-0 lead. West Texas A&M struck back and scored two of their own in the bottom of the second to take a 2-1 lead.

The Falcons tied the game 2-2 in the third inning Laslie Martinez singled to center and came home on a Graft sacrifice fly to left. West Texas A&M scored nine unanswered runs until the fifth inning where the Falcons got one run back. Martinez again singled to lead off an inning and came in on a Jessica Gonzalez fielders' choice for their final run of the game falling to West Texas A&M 11-3.

Leslie Martinez and Aracely Araiza both had two hits in the game with Martinez scoring two of the three Falcon runs.

Next up for the Falcons will be a Sunday contest against Eastern New Mexico University at 12 PM to wrap up the Lubbock Christian Invitational. The Falcons will have their home opener against the University of the Southwest on Feb. 25th at 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
