Cousins Throws 3-Hit Shutout in Upset of #7 Central Oklahoma
UT Permian Basin Softball wrapped up the Arkansas Tech Invitational, pulling off a 1-0 upset win over Central Oklahoma for their second win of the season. The win is the Falcons third over a ranked opponent, and second over a top-10 program the last two seasons. In the first half of the doubleheader the Falcons fell to Minnesota-Duluth 8-0.
The Falcons scored their one and only run in the first inning.
Alicia Marion doubled to left and scored with two outs in the inning on a single threw the right side by
Lani Graft giving the Falcons the lead just four batters into the game. Cousins made quick work of the Bronchos, allowing just three base runners all afternoon, while striking out one.
The Falcons out hit UCO six to three and also led in lead-off batting average .429 (3-7) to .143 (1-7). The Falcons had three doubles from
Aracely Araiza, Marion, and Graft.
The Falcons faced Minnesota-Duluth in their first contest of the day. They sprinkled three singles by
Valerie Gonzalez,
Marissa Salinas, and
Aracely Araiza in the effort.
Next up for the Falcons is the Lubbock Christian Invitational February 7
th – 9
th. The first game will start on Friday at 12:15 against Oklahoma Baptist.
