Alicia Marion had a strong doubleheader, collecting five hits against Oklahoma Baptist and Nebraska Kearney. The sophomore collected two hits against Oklahoma Baptist in the first game before picking up three in the second game against Nebraska Kearney. She now has nine hits on the season after leading the team in hits last year with 34. It wasn't enough as the Falcons fell to Oklahoma Baptist 11-3, after late rally, and then fell to Nebraska Kearney 8-7.
The second game was much more closely contested and went down to the final at bat.
Marissa Salinas drove in a run on a single up the middle to get things started in the top of the first. Nebraska Kearney rallied in the third scoring four runs to take the lead. The Falcons struck right back scoring five of their own in the top of the fourth.
April Arellano got things started with a two-run homer to left. The rally continued with Marion driving in
Valerie Gonzalez and tied the game. An error allowed Marion to come into score and Salinas drove in another run putting the Falcons ahead 6-4. Once again Nebraska Kearney rallied, scoring three in their half of the fourth. Marion was clutch again in the top of the fifth, tying the game with an RBI-single. A home run in the bottom of the sixth put Nebraska Kearney up 8-7.
The Falcons had a chance in the seventh. Back to back walks to open the seventh got the Falcons going, but back to back strike outs followed by a ground out ended the rally with the tying run on third.
Choco Munoz got the offense going in the first game drilling her first home run of the season in the second inning giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead. They added two more later in the inning when
Jessica Gonzales drove in
Nayeli Diaz and
Abby Hernandez on single up the middle. Oklahoma Baptist chipped away at the lead scoring a run in the third and two in the fifth to tie the game. The game remained tied until the seventh when Oklahoma Baptist rallied, scoring eight and putting the game out of reach.
Munoz and
Leslie Martinez finished the first game with two hits each. Gonzales added a hit and two RBI. Marion and Salinas had multi-hit and multi-RBI games in game two. Arellano drove in a pair of runs and
Aracely Araiza had a pair of hits as well.
The Falcons are back in action tomorrow starting at 12:15 against New Mexico Highlands.
