Victor Gill grew up playing basketball in high school. Towards the end of his high school career, Gill's father passed away. Helping him get through was his basketball coach, who was also the high school's football coach. His father was an avid football fan so he gave the sport a shot and immediately fell in love. After playing just a short time, Gill ended up going to the University of North Texas to play tight end.
At North Texas, Gill had a stellar career, earning first team All-Sun Belt honors at left tackle and NSCA All-American honors in 2010. The two-time captain was also a star in the classroom earning First Team All-Academic honors and made the Dean's List.
After his playing career, Gill got into coaching including stops across the Division I level. He spent time at his alma mater, UT Austin, and the University of South Florida. At UT Austin, Gill helped D'Onta Foreman rush for over 2,000 yards and win the 2016 Doak Walker Award as the nation's best running back.
Now the offensive line coach and run game coordinator for the Falcons, Gill got into coaching to pay it forward and be there for his athletes if they need anything on or off the field. This also ties into his favorite part about coaching. Gill loves to be around his players no matter if they meet at practice, meetings, or off the field encounters.
"Getting to be around the guys is definitely one of the highlights of the job," said Gill. "Another highlight is when you get to nudge the players in the right direction of doing a drill, or a technique and see their faces when they get it right. To me this is the most rewarding part of the job."
Gill has been around two completely different mindsets from coaches. He has been around very intense and disciplined coaches while he was very laid back and easy going. Both tactics worked with the groups that they had, and Gill uses his own version from those two and meshes them together to find the perfect balance.
When he is not coaching he enjoys watching movies and playing chess. He also enjoys watching sports. He grew up in the Fort Worth area, so he leans to be a Cowboys, Rangers, Stars, and Mavericks fan. His favorite out of those teams is the Dallas Mavericks. He had a Great Dane when he was younger, and he name him Dirk after Mavericks star power forward Dirk Nowitzki.
