UT Permian Basin Women's Basketball kicked off its 2020-21 season with a 72-59 victory over visiting Western New Mexico in their home opener.
Rory Carter led the scoring for the Falcons with 13 as
Lauren Stallworth finished right behind her with 10 points.
The Falcon (1-0) defense was a force collecting 20 steals, which tied for tenth all-time in school history and was the 13
th time in school history the Falcons collected 20 or more steals in a single game. The team forced 32 turnovers and held the Mustangs to 37 percent shooting.
In the first quarter, the Falcons used a 13-2 run to take their first lead of the game and they would not look back. Up 13-9 at the 3:11 mark in the first quarter they widened their lead with help of a 5-0 run and ended the first quarter 23-14. Both teams went on a defensive battle in the second quarter as both combined scored to score only 18 points sending the Falcons to a 31-24 lead at halftime.
The Falcons extended their lead by five by the end of the third quarter and continued to pour it on in the fourth for the eventual 72-59 win.
Rory Carter collected 13 points, four steals, four assists, and four rebounds during the game. Carter and Stallworth led the Falcons in steals with four each and
Nokoia White led the Falcons with five rebounds.
Up next for the Falcons is a pair of home games on Friday and Saturday against the Cameron Aggies (1-1). Friday's game will start at 5Â PM and Saturday at 3 PM.
