Champions Fund Donor Feature Fridays: Dan Brazelton

10/23/2020 11:43:00 AM

Growing up in the Permian Basin, Dan Brazelton got the opportunity few have as part of the first graduating class at UT Permian Basin.  Now semi-retired after working in insurance for 30 years, Dan and his wife Robbie have become loyal fans of Falcon Athletics after being recruited by friend and fellow donor Ted Hogan a few years ago.

"It's important to support all your local activities," said Brazelton.  "Be a sporting event, United Way, or your church, I've always been a big supporter of non-profits.  My sons went to Division I schools and it's great to see UTPB beginning to build a network like them of alumni and donors."

A lot has changed on campus since 1975 when Brazelton graduated from UTPB.  Campus has expanded as has the footprint of the athletics programs in the local community.  On and off the field Brazelton feels like UTPB is doing its job to serve the community.

"I'm so impressed in how UTPB has grown over the last 10 to 15 years into a full-fledged university," said Brazelton. "I see the engineering side growing and they have a very active business program.  At the insurance agency we always looked for accounting students to work for us."

As Brazelton transitions to semi-retirement, and with Robbie retired after 33 years of teaching in the ECISD system, he fondly remembers the first UTPB football game he got the honor of attending.

"To see those young men come onto the field representing the orange and white, it was something very moving to see."

The University has come a long way since 1975 when Brazelton crossed that stage.  The Falcons are trending upwards as is the University.

"I really appreciate the path Dr. (Sandra) Woodley has put us on," said Brazelton. "We're certainly heading in the right direction.  I can't wait to see continued good things from UTPB and UTPB Athletics.  There's still work to be done but I'm pleased with the direction of everything."
