Trailing with under 15 minutes to play, UT Permian Basin men's soccer rallied late to defeat Colorado Christian 2-1 on opening night.
The Falcons (1-0) had their chances early when
Jose Miguel Calle had back to back shots on goal before
John Karlsen missed just high within 40 seconds of each other.  They'd continue to pepper the Cougar (0-1) defense, firing off 10 shots in the first half, while holding the Cougars to just one.  Despite all the shots the Falcons couldn't finish and the game was tied heading into the half.
The second half started much of the same way as the first with the Falcons continuing to aim at the net but unable to finish.  In the 76th minute it was the Cougars who were able to strike first as Zach Mercier found the back of the net putting th Falcons down a goal.
Exactly one minute later the Falcons answered with one of their own.
Sergio Morgado's cross found
Kasper Wallstroem who put it in the back of the net for the equalizer.  The rally wasn't done as a few minutes later,
John Karlsen flicked one passed the keeper with an assist from
Andre Luis Lima for the go-ahead goal.  The Falcon defense did the rest holding the score at 2-1 until the final whistle for the season opening victory.
"I think we came out with some first game jitters," said Head Coach
Dennis Peterson. "It was the first game playing against someone besides ourselves and sometimes you're not as sharp as you'd like.  We made a mistake that allowed them to score but I was confident we'd comeback.  I was prepared for overtime but getting the winner in regulation was nice."
Wallstroem and Karlsen each scored in their Falcon debuts with Morgado and Lima earning assists in their debuts.  The Falcons ended the night with 22 shots, eight on goal, along with 13 corner kicks.
Alfonso Aragon made three saves in goal.
The Falcons hit the road next week for a three-game West Coast swing in California starting next Friday.
