Hard-Hitting Falcons Take Hot Start into Three-Match Weekend

UT Permian Basin jumps into Lone Star Conference action this weekend, playing three matches in four days with games schedule against Angelo State, Lubbock Christian, and Western New Mexico.

The Falcons enter the weekend 9-1 and are coming off of a 3-0 sweep of Western New Mexico last weekend in their Lone Star Conference Opener. 

UT Permian Basin ranks fourth in the conference hitting .237 as a team, and the Falcons have the best opposing team hitting percentage at .098 through 10 matches.

Travana Matthews leads all players in the Lone Star Conference, hitting .464 with 71 kills and just seven errors on 138 attacks.

Angelo State enters the weekend 11-1 with a perfect 3-0 mark in Lone Star Conference play. The Belles have won three straight over West Texas A&M, Eastern New Mexico and Lubbock Christian, dropping just one set in that span. 

Angelo State ranks near the top of the Lone Star Conference in a number of statistics, including leading the conference with 13.54 kills per set. Kailyn Gilbreath is the leader of the Angelo State attack, averaging 3.17 kills per set on .427 hitting to lead the Belles with 130 kills on the season. Lindsey Ledyard and Meghan Parker split duties at setter, Ledyard leading ASU with 209 assists and Parker just behind at 192. Makenna Hanssen and Haley Coulter lead the defense with 135 and 112 digs, respectively.

Lubbock Christian enters play at 6-5 on the season with a 1-2 LSC record. The Lady Chaps have dropped back-to-back matches in conference play, losing 3-2 at West Texas A&M and suffering a 3-0 sweep to the Belles.

Hannah Thomas (130), Avery Moore (116) and Ashley Vanfleet (105) lead the Lady Chap attack with over 100 kills through 11 matches. Bradi Marshall has 425 assists on the season, and Maddie DeGuire has a team-best 194 digs this season.

Western New Mexico comes into the weekend 2-6 and having lost five straight, including a 3-0 sweep against the Falcons last weekend. The Mustangs take on the Lady Chaps and Belles before coming to Odessa Monday afternoon.

Erin Moss leads WNMU with 93 kills on the season. Setter Sarah Campoli has a team-high 196 assists, and Gabi Lau leads all Mustangs with 102 digs.
